> For International Workers Day in Montreal, a (class-first, socialist, militant) labour group called Alliance Ouvrière (Workers Alliance) brought a guillotine to the national demonstration and carried out a mock execution of a paper maché dummy which looked somewhat like the Minister of Labour of Quebec, one Jean Boulet. During the demonstration, rank and file union members from the major unions laughed and cheered and gave thumbs up as the guillotine passed by on its rolling platform. Good family fun for all.

> The next day however, a Rebel News reporter 'broke' the 'story': Bolshevik terrorists threaten political violence at union event! Immediately, the heads of every political party and every union central denounced Alliance Ouvrière and distanced themselves from the guillotine stunt. The leader of the Parti Quebecois said he was shocked and sickened. The leader of Quebec Solidaire demanded that AO apologize. The Minister of Labour, a weepy little worm of a man, wriggled and whinged.

> The next day after that, the entire media ecosystem of Quebec descended into a pearl-clutching frenzy over GuillotineGate. The right-wing podcast circuit started freaking out over the spectre of communist terrorism. The mainstream media came out with piece after piece on how it may have been illegal. Opinion writers wept about how our democracy is now in danger from political extremism and political violence. TVA called it 'une violence inouïe' (an act of unprecedented violence). The police said they were opening an investigation. The Minister of Labour said he would be personally filing charges.

> The hysterical reaction of these contemptible clowns and inveterate criminals is very funny. It's amazing to see how easy it was to trigger these entirely-too-comfortable elites and their cringing lackeys. Almost certainly their legal threats will come to nothing, since doing street theatre is not illegal. It is concerning that they are even trying this tack though.

> Alliance Ouvrière and the socialist left in Quebec more generally could probably use your support and attention right now, if you happen to be members of organizations which could issue statements and so on. Otherwise, consider this a little snippet helping to keep you up to date on the goings-on in Quebec.
