> Exciting and encouraging Sooty owl update, photo taken in Maroota Forest area (accessed through private land with permission). Recently multiple breeding pairs have been confirmed to be in the area, demonstrating that Maroota Forest and Little Cattai Creek area is absolutely crucial sooty owl habitat, supporting a good population.

> Sooty owls have always been in this forest, heard calling occasionally on night walks and picked up in some of our field work (drone and song meter), but this update of multiple breeding pairs adds substantially to the existing data.
>
> Sooty owls are listed as vulnerable in NSW so this is significant for the overall population especially given it is in Sydney.

> Thank you to @James Hunt and Veeraj Sharma for this surveying work you've been doing for sooty owls and other species, it is really important data and thank you for doing it respectfully to land holders and to wildlife without interfering with wildlife/impacting too much. And thanks to James for this photo!

> Important note: most of Maroota Forest is private land and should be accessed only with permission! Plz don't go looking for sooties, they need to be left in peace and are only being documented for conservation hopes.
