**Whereas:**

> Canadians are living longer and many seniors wish or need to continue working
>
> Under the current system, employment income earned by seniors is combined with Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) benefits, often resulting in higher overal taxation
>
> This structure may discourage workforce participation among older Canadians despite their experience and willingness to contribute
>
> Seniors have contributed to CPP throughout their working lives
>
> Single seniors may receive less overall benefit from CPP contributions than those eligible for survivor benefits
>
> Deferring CPP or OAS may not be a viable option for all Canadians due to financial needs and uncertainty of life expectancy.
